Glacier National Park is so much bigger than most people realize (map). Glacier is broken into 8 different regions with vastly different views, habitats, weather, lighting, colors, accessibility, and other important factors to consider before choosing a location for your wedding or elopement ceremony. Only 6 of the different regions of Glacier offer ceremony locations. If you are searching for where to get married in Glacier Nation Park, Montana, the following guide will help you find the perfect location for you Glacier elopement.
First it is important to note that, when getting married in Glacier National Park , or any national park, you must apply for a ceremony permit. These fall under the category of Special Use Permits (Application for Special Park Uses (Form 10-930s)). Glacier National Park ceremony permits are $125 and can be applied for online at (Pay.gov – Home).
Fun fact, I am on the Board of a group I co-founded (Public Land Creatives), that works closely with National Parks across the country, to help photographers and videographers navigate the laws and regulations on public lands. Being an expert in this area, has been a huge asset for my own business and has allowed me to form relationships and open communication with park management. It is very important that your elopement photographer be informed and respectful of our National Parks and public lands. it is there responsibility to stay up to date on laws and regulations, as well as practice Leave No Trace and outdoor recreation ethics.
Okay, back to Glacier National Park ceremony locations for your Glacier wedding or elopement. The 6 regions of Glacier that allow for ceremony permits are:
Lake McDonald
North Fork
St Mary
Two Medicine/Walton
Many Glacier
Each region offers several ceremony locations to get married. Each ceremony location is limited to a specific number of people and vehicles. Most Glacier National Park ceremony locations for weddings and elopements are not accessible for much of the year due to our harsh winters here in Montana. It’s important to know what locations are available for the month you plan your Montana Wedding. This is one of the many reasons, it is wise to work with local vendors who can guide you through this process, and why I offer all inclusive Glacier National Park elopement packages. I help my couples navigate all the ins-and-outs of their Montana elopement experience.
It is also important to note that each Glacier National Park ceremony location is capped at only 2 permits per wedding location per day, so it’s pivotal that you apply for your permit as soon as possible. (Apply here Application for Special Park Uses (Form 10-930s)
